Moors and Christians (Ontinyent, Bocairent, L’Olleria, Albaida)

The Moors and Christians Festivals are one of the most traditional representations of the Comunitat Valènciana. These festivals commemorate the battles in which the Christians conquered the lands dominated by the Muslims. The parades, the music, the rich clothing of the comparsas or filaes (which is what the different groups of Moors and Christians that make up the festival are called) and the gunpowder delight visitors to this festival. They are held on different dates in many towns in the Province, some of the most popular being those of Bocairent in February and those of Ontinyent in August.
