THE CASTLE

During the 10th century, the Caliphs of Cordoba devoted special interest to the construction of castles and fortresses along the Islamic-Christian border line, which included our lands. The Arab fortification of Jarafuel was a walled redoubt, located in a strategic place, which served as a watchtower and refuge in case of attack. This type of fortress was called a ‘husun’, and in the singular ‘hisn’.
