Cathedral-Diocesan Museum of Valencia
Museums ( València )
Museum that brings together the artistic collection of the Cathedral and the diocese of Valencia, whose visit is included in the Cathedral itself. It houses paintings, sculpture, gold and silver work and outstanding pieces such as the Cathedral’s Processional Monstrance.
The current Museum began in 1761 until 1954, when the Chapter and the Archbishopric created the Cathedral Museum, with the aim of cataloguing and exhibiting, in a more rational and accessible way, some pieces of outstanding value from the cathedral collection. In 1966 it was decided that the Cathedral Museum would also become the Diocesan Museum, merging both institutions. For this purpose a new building was constructed, attached to the Cathedral.
