Casa dels Mayans Museum. Subsite of the MuVIM in Oliva.

Museums ( La Safor - Oliva )

The preserved house of the family of D. Gregorio Mayans y Siscar houses the permanent exhibition on Everyday Life in the 18th century. It recreates the material conditions of the family during their retirement in Oliva (1739-1767): the main bedroom, the children’s bedrooms, the kitchen, the dining room and the scholar’s library. Among the numerous materials on dispaly, the portraits of D. Gregorio and one of his brotherss, Manuel Mayans, both from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, stand out. The successful replica of the domestic environment of the period, together with the preservation of the original architecture of a house typical of the wealthy families of the 18th century, are a good reference to contextualise the intense work carried out by D. Gregorio in defence of criticism and freedom of thought during the years of reisdence in his native town.
