World Cultural Heritage Festivals
On September 7 and 8, the Festivities in honour of the Mare de Déu de la Salut, declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, are celebrated in Algemesí. The most outstanding element of these festivals, but not the only one, is the "Muixeranga": a set of dances and human towers that have been performed without interruption since at least the 18th century.
Processions are held in the town which, in addition to the Muixeranga, include dances such as els bastonets, the carxofa, els arquets, les pastoretes, the bolero, els gegants and els tornejants as well as theatrical performances drawn from biblical landscapes.
