Biosphere Reserve

The International Coordinating Council of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere programme approved in Paris the declaration of the Alto Turia as a Biosphere Reserve, making it the first environmental reserve with this international certification in the Valencian Community. These are areas made up of terrestrial, marine and coastal ecosystems, which promote solutions to reconcile the conservation of biodiversity with its sustainable use, economic development, research and education.
