THE ARCHES AQUEDUCT (RECONSTRUCTED IN THE 16TH CENTURY)

The Arches Aqueduct is one of the most outstanding hydraulic constructions in the Camp de Morvedre. It is part of Sagunt’s Séquia Major. Its mission is to bring the water through the irregular plain of Palància, and for it to reach the town of Albalat dels Tarongers. The current construction dates from after 1581. It is the work of the village labourer Joan Salvador and the stonemason Joan Asó. The aqueduct is made up of ten arches of different styles: rounded, recessed and pointed.
