It was inaugurated on 14 April 1936, coinciding with the fiftieth anniversary of the proclamation of the Second Spanish Republic.
The previous year, the old town hall was demolished and for the new one, the house at number 1 Carrer de Sant Antoni was acquired, following a report by the architect Joaquín Aracil.
