On foot through El Carmen

El Carmen is the old part of the city, and one of the largest in Europe. Bounded by the Muslim and Christian walls, of which only a few traces remain, the majestic Torres de Quart and Serranos (old city gates) mark its extent. Walking its streets by day allows the visitor to contemplate rich palaces, especially in the area of Caballeros Street, and interesting churches, squares and museums. But it also allows the visitor to do some shopping in the many second-hand shops that abound in the neighbourhood or relax by eating or drinking in its many bars and terraces. At night, although much of the nightlife has moved to other places such as the multicultural Russafa neighbourhood or the renovated Port area, the charm of the old town still attracts many young people from all over the world.
