The area of l’Horta and its historic canals, dating from the Muslim era, has more than anything else, shaped València and its economy since the Middle Ages. Several organisations offer guided tours through this region, giving a much better understanding of València’s individualism and history.
The Tribunal de las Aguas, declared to be Intangible Cultural Heritage, is the oldest legal entity in Europe and the most representative example of the intimate relationship of this region with its irrigation.
This Court has met publicly every Thursday for hundreds of years (there is no precise information on its origin) at the Puerta de los Apóstoles of València Cathedral, to resolve conflicts between irrigators in the area.
