Gastronomy:<\/h4>\r\nPaella, which finds it most faithful and authentic interpretation in Sueca\u2019s cuisine, as well as all the possible combinations of rice with meat, fish, seafood and vegetables, stewed and baked.\r\n\r\nThe International Valencian Paella Competition, which is held every year, has its origins in 1961, coinciding with the \u201cboom\u201d in tourism and gastronomic competitions.\r\n\r\nDuring this period, Sueca celebrated the 600th anniversary of the \u201cTroballa de la Mare de D\u00e9u\u201d and, taking advantage of the circumstances, a festival dedicated to paella was created. Thus was born the \u201crice festivity\u201d and, as is logical, a Valencian paella competition of nationwide renown was born. The festival grew in importance and, after 5 years, was declared of Tourist Interest (BIC).\r\n\r\nRECIPE FOR VALENCIAN PAELLA<\/strong>\r\n\r\nRecipe provided by Jes\u00fas Melero\r\n\r\nCulinary Coordinator of the Sueca International Valencian Paella Competition.\r\n\r\nIngredients: (serves 4)\r\n400 g of Sueca rice\r\n800 g of chicken\r\n400 g of rabbit\r\n1 dozen \u201cvaquetes\u201d (snails)\r\n400 g of lima beans\r\n150 g of \u201ctavella\u201d beans\r\n300 g of beans\r\nOlive Oil\r\n1 clove of garlic, peeled and chopped\r\n1 ripe crushed tomato\r\n1 tablespoon of paprika\r\nSaffron threads, salt, sprig of rosemary (optional)\r\n\r\nPREPARATION\r\nCut the chicken and rabbit into regular-sized pieces, add salt, heat the oil in the paella dish and slowly and thoroughly saut\u00e9 the meat. Once the meat has been saut\u00e9ed, we add the vegetables and we saut\u00e9 again. Then garlic, paprika and tomato are added. Two litres of water and the cleaned snails are then added. We then leave to boil for 10 minutes. The saffron is then added and the rice spread over the entire surface of the paella dish. Let the rice cook over a high heat for 8 minutes.\r\nIt is then removed from the heat in order that it may slow-cook for a further ten minutes and become crispy.\r\n

Places of interest:<\/h3>\r\n\u2013 \u201cMuntanyeta dels Sants\u201d, on the summit of which is located the hermitage of the Saints Abdon and Senen (Gothic, 17th century).\r\n\u2013 Real Church of the Our Lady of Sales, 17th century;\r\n\u2013 Former Convent of Franciscan Monks of the Observance.\r\n\u2013 Church of St. Peter (neoclassical), 18th century.\r\n\u2013 The Home for the Abandoned Elderly (19th century)\r\n\u2013 El Ateneu Suec\u00e0 del Socors (19th-century)\r\n\u2013 The Town Hall (18th-century)\r\n\u2013 \u201cLos Porches\u201d (arches with wide, square stone columns). 18th-century).\r\n\u2013 \u201cEl Azut del R\u00edo\u201d, a site located near the River J\u00facar as it passes near Sueca; Friday market all year on Calle Sequial, a living example of traditional commerce.\r\n\u2013 L\u2019Albufera Natural Park.\r\n\u2013 Sueca also has 8 km. of beaches, stretching from El Perello to Mareny de Vilxes, and including Palmeres, Mareny de Barraquetes and Mareny Blau, which are suitable for spearfishing and sea fishing, as well as river fishing throughout the area; El Perello Marina.\r\n\r\nThe gentle terrain, its climatic uniformity and cultivation of rice results in a territory full of exotic landscapes and forms. The Albufera Natural Park offers a diversity of landscapes that correspond to a wealth of ecosystems, each with its characteristic flora and fauna. In the vague boundary between the underground fresh and salt waters emerge the \u201cullals\u201d, from which springs fresh water and where endangered Mediterranean fish, such as the Spanish toothcarp and Valencia hispanica, take refuge.\r\n\r\n\u201cLa Muntanyeta del Sants\u201d, the only summit in the area, rises like a small island among large tracts of paddy fields.\r\n

Festivities:<\/h3>\r\nLight, fire, gunpowder, staging \u2026 are all key elements in Sueca\u2019s festivities. \u201cLas Fallas\u201d are celebrated in March. Holy Week. The town\u2019s main festivity, called the Rice Festival, is held in September and includes the Sueca International Valencian Paella Competition, during which international chefs display their skills whilst attempting to create the best paella in the world.\r\n\r\nThe local events also include \u201cel piromusical\u201d (fireworks), during which brightly-coloured fireworks a launched to the rhythm of music for 20 minutes. Special mention may be made of the town\u2019s main festivities, which are held on 29th July and include a pilgrimage.\r\n\r\nWe cannot forget the International Mime Festival, which begins upon the termination of main festivities, and which is dedicated to the arts of gesture and movement. The\u00a0FIMAC<\/em>\u00a0(International Agricultural Machinery Fair) is celebrated at the end of May.\r\n\r\n\u201cLes Tirades\u201d, celebrated between November and January (waterfowl hunting). \u201cLes Catalinetes\u201d, an afternoon snack with typical sweet of the day (anise rolls).
