La Fira i les festes en honor de Sant Francesc de Borja, un noble i jesu\u00efta natural de la ciutat que va ser canonitzat el 1617 pel papa Climent X. L\u2019origen de la festa, basat en el privilegi que el rei Jaume II va concedir a la ciutat d\u2019organitzar per Sant Miquel la fira de bestiar, ha acabat per convertir-se en una de les festes urbanes m\u00e9s importants del sud de la prov\u00edncia de Val\u00e8ncia. Hi destaquen les exhibicions de tir i for\u00e7a al barranc de Beniopa i la figura del Tio de la Porra, anunciador de les festes. Creada a final del segle xix, aquesta figura, en un principi sarc\u00e0stica i burlanera dels poders locals, est\u00e0 configurada per trenta membres dels quatre instituts de la localitat que, disfressats de soldats francesos, recorren els col\u00b7legis alliberant els estudiants de les obligacions escolars i anunciant l\u2019inici de les festes.
